New Lawn Construction in St. Albans, Hertfordshire

New Lawn Construction in St. Albans, Hertfordshire

This newly-laid lawn in St. Albans, Hertfordshire was historically a bizarre collection of raised beds.

We created a new garden with a turfed area for comfort and the surrounds will be indigenous wild grasses that will provide not only a nice rural feel to the garden, but more of a habitat for insects.

The use of wild grasses is growing in line with the concept of Wildflower Meadows, the difference being that they can be much easier to manage. These grasses can be left to grow to a height of 60-90cm and produce a unique structure of flower heads. These are left to seed in late summer and then the area can be strimmed and cleared.

During the season, Perfect Ground Solutions can control any weeds in this mix of grasses, to keep pernicious weeds out of the mix.

The grass seeds are sown with a cultipacker; a machine specifically designed to carry out this type of work.

Turfing is a great way to produce an instant lawn. Perfect Ground Solutions, as you would expect from a professional lawn treatment company,  are very choosey on turf supply and have good relationships with local turf suppliers – we also operate as advisors for some.

We are very careful to make sure that we provide good advice as to how and when turfing jobs can be successful and will turn them down, when we do not think jobs or conditions will not lead to a sustainable lawn.

Here is a picture of the laid turf which has gone very well and is getting a light watering:

We will be monitoring this job on a regular basis, to make sure this this client is happy with the final result on an ongoing basis.
